AMF Reminds Crypto Firms of MiCA Compliance Deadline

Key Points:
  • France’s AMF sets MiCA compliance deadline for July 2026.
  • Authorization crucial for crypto firms to continue operations.
  • Non-compliance could lead to significant financial penalties.

France’s financial regulator, the AMF, reminded DASPs on February 5, 2026, that MiCA authorization is required by July 1, 2026, for continued operations within France.

The requirement could significantly impact crypto-assets services, urging timely compliance to avoid penalties and ensure structured wind-downs if necessary.

France’s financial regulator, the Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF), has issued a reminder to Digital Asset Service Providers (DASPs) regarding the impending MiCA compliance deadline set for July 1, 2026.

The AMF emphasized that DASPs must secure MiCA authorization to continue operations in France beyond the deadline. Non-compliant firms face cessation of activities by March 30, 2026, to safeguard client assets.

The regulatory changes will significantly impact crypto-asset services across France, affecting providers unable to obtain CASP authorization. Compliance is mandatory for ongoing business operations.

“DASPs wishing to continue their activities and who have not yet submitted an application for an authorisation to do so as soon as possible. A particular attention should be paid to the quality of the application file.”

Failure to comply may result in imprisonment of up to two years and a fine of €30,000, as highlighted in the AMF Official Report. The AMF may take additional enforcement actions against non-compliant entities.

The regulation does not specify particular cryptocurrencies, indicating broad applicability across all crypto-asset services under MiCA. This comprehensive regulatory framework aims to enhance market integrity and investor protection.

Industry experts predict potential financial, regulatory, and technological shifts as firms work toward compliance. The stringent authorization process highlighted by the AMF underscores the importance of robust regulatory adherence for continued market participation.
