Bitlayer has announced a partnership with Sui, aimed at integrating the BitVM Bridge ecosystem. This collaboration was revealed on May 15, 2025, to foster DeFi functionalities within the Bitcoin space.
Bitlayer and Sui’s collaboration could reshape Bitcoin’s role in DeFi, providing holders new opportunities to leverage their assets.
Integration Efforts
Bitlayer is collaborating with Sui by integrating the BitVM Bridge into Sui’s blockchain infrastructure. This effort intends to expand the utility of Bitcoin (BTC) by facilitating DeFi functionalities. Bitlayer seeks to enhance BTC’s use beyond its store of value capability. As Charlie Hu, Co-founder, Bitlayer stated, “Bitcoin’s dominance as a store of value is unmatched, but its utility in DeFi remains largely untapped.”
Bitlayer and Sui assert their commitment to developing a trust-minimized BTC bridge solution. The integration enables users to transfer BTC into Sui’s ecosystem, expanding trading and staking opportunities. Sui’s representative noted the potential to transform Bitcoin holders’ experiences in DeFi environments.
The partnership is expected to positively influence the DeFi market through increased Bitcoin liquidity. Sui’s integration with BitVM Bridge marks its seventh, aligning with other significant partnerships. This provides Bitcoin holders with additional opportunities to generate yields within the DeFi space.
Recent interest in “BitcoinFi” indicates a trend where Bitcoin’s use in DeFi grows, garnering attention from traditional financial institutions. As Sui enhances Bitcoin’s accessibility to DeFi, it draws closer to major financial ecosystems. Sui’s ecosystem aims at fostering a robust environment supporting Bitcoin-backed activities. The BitVM Bridge is reportedly in its final testing phase and is expected to launch on mainnet soon.
